I can’t wait. I use the DR1000 daily at work and re-flow pdfs would be a very useful addition. Probably less so with teh DR1000 as opposed to the iLiad, but it would have its uses in my line of work.

Would it also support the DRM Epub books though? I hope so.

So what about the iLiad? Do you have any plans to bring Adobe’s DRM and ePub to this device as well?

Could the community help you in developing appropriate software?

OK, I’ve found the announcement on the forum that you won’t develop the software for the iLiad. Too bad…

Thank you for this announcement and the effort behind it. Note on putting best face forward — edit check the original announcement: In the first line of the second paragraph, “adept” should be –adopt–.
Keep on with the developments and integrations! Thank you.

No support for iLiad? My 3-week-old ebook reader is alredy obsolete for iRex?

Once there was a time in which a lot of promises where made by Irex: The Iliad would gain 20 hour battery power; the Iliad would also get MP3 functionality and -beside these technical aspects- the Iliad would be a unlimited source of newspapers that you could subscribe to.

I don’t believe in fairy tails anymore.

Irex doesn’t keep itself to its promises and I feel left alone with a reader that they don’t develop anymore.

@Rene: At least they open-sourced most part of their software, so community development is going on (check http://www.mobileread.com if you didn’t so yet). IMO we can expect some more features from the community in the future.

I know, this is no excuse for iRex’s promises, but it’s at least something :)

I too find it very disappointing that there seems to be no development for the iLiad – which is still sold as “current product” (or whatever) from iRex.

Not only that, the iLiad – in my eyes – is a much better Platform for simple eBook reading, the DR is simply too big in my eyes to comfortably hod it f.x. in the bed or wherever.

Given that both systems use a similar platform I too must say that I am very disappointed that there is no development of the DRMed software part of the iLiad. Especially, as no amount of open sourceing will help there…

    It’s a shame.

    Sigh.

Please develop iLiad’s software! It’s such a great product.

This is another poor management/strategic decision. Sharing the source code for the iLiad’s not the answer!
The SDK is not going to solve your generic platform problems for you if you don’t have a critical mass of developers, and guess what? You only have a critical mass of developers if you don’t have a chunk of the market because your platform works. See the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

Is it on purpose? I would have bought a Cybook if I’d known how badly this platform’s being developed (the only alternative available in Australia, alas).

For the price of DR1000 you can get Thinkpad X61T (Tablet)…
I am still waiting for significant price drop or quality which could back up the price.

There is just no development going on for this reader.. dead product.

I came from a Cybook Gen3 (also a very death product because totaly no development / bugfixing going on) to a DR1000 but that was a mistake for. This product is even more abandoned by the manufacturer then the Cybook.

I’am currently trying to sell it and will never look again to a product from this manufacturer(s)
