Just running the IREX companion software does nothing for me. No update is downloaded and installed.

    Manually updating works fine tho.

Same here, whichever I start both iRexDR1000.exe and UpdateiRex.exe fail to come up with the dialog mentioned on the support site. They simply startup and show me the usual Companion Software interface. No question about downloading and/or installing the update. (I’m running version 1.6 still)

Just put the contents of the zip file Karel links to in:
X:\System\ (where X: is the assigned name for the SD card in your DR1000)
There should be two folders then:
    X:\System\update (with 5 files)
    X:\System\desktop (6 files)

Then disconnect the USB (safely) and the device will show a pop-up window, saying it found a firmware update and asking if you want to reboot.

Tip: make sure the battery is full…

Using Companion software automatic upload has NEVER worked for me yet, but manual is always fine.
Also noted the device continuously freezes when I use a USB charger (computer USB port is OK). Is this patch resolving that as well?

    of the IRex
    \System\pc_application\version.ini

I think much is yet to be improved, and a lot of patches will be needed.
I am struggling with my DR1000 as it is slow, and seems to have problems opening pdf’s of more than 10 Mb.
    —-
I have a few additional remarks, maybe someone can comment on them
    —-
I suppose I can simply drag and drop files via Windows explorer onto my DR1000? because in the companion software not many of the options are enabled in the DOUMENT SECTION – only create folder – and the rest Is useless
    —-
Is it not possible to have a metadata-file per pdf , so that ,if something goes wrong – in a pdf -, at least the opening of other pdf’s is not compromised
    —-
The PageThumbnails could be better if it were to memorize them or even continue to prepare them while – in the mean time – you go to another book.
If you go to the normal reading mode, all this work -creating thumbnails – is lost and he has to start allover again, ( very annoying when you try to read a newspaper, because then thumbnails comme in very handy, but it is useless for the moment )
So they should be stored in a metadatfile – space not being an issue any more -

What I do for the moment is cutting my newspaper in as many pdf’s as there are pages in the news paper.

The light version of the newspaper – epub – not supported yet, I have to do this, to have at least a minimal reading experience.

Does this firmware contain ePUB and ADE support? I cannot find any information. We are long long time waiting for it.

I would even be happier with a Windows 7 64 bit driver.
    When???

I dont know about you guys but i am experiencing the same problems mentioned above. I purchased this item when if first came out. I have had nothing but problems the whole time. Most of my time is spent trying to get the thing to work. :(

    Ultra-portable

With a sleek and lightweight design you can take the iRex Digital Reader almost anywhere – and with plenty of memory to store you ou will have all your paperwork and documents at hand. The chargeable built in Lithium Ion battery has sufficient power to last for days.

*Adobe PDF and EPUB support will be available via firmware update for all owners of a DR1000S (End Q1 2010).
