IREX Technologies is happy to report that there is now also a Public Beta of the DR800S and DR800SG 2.0 software available.

This BETA version still has some known issues but it is fully functional, feature complete and should only have minor problems. It is also Adobe-Certified with regard to PDF/EPUB rendering and DRM.

In addition to the DR800S software release IREX Technologies is proud to announce the new software for the DR1000S, the release of this software will take place at the same time as the DR800S software. (formal release expected in April)

It is vital that you read the following information before updating any software.

• When updating the software please use a different SD card, all notes on the old SD card will be over written and you will not be able to use them again. Before updating, make a full backup of your SD card.  Your old notes will still be viewable.
• Flashing the software forward (2.0)  and backward (1.71) will be possible, for this please keep a copy of the old software on your system and install when needed, this will give you the option to read your Mobipocket books and old notes.

IREX plans to release a new version of the system software to add features & improvements to the IREX DR800 series (formal release expected in April).

The new software version v2.0 will have many new features including:

• PDF document zoom and scribble functions¹
• “Go to page” menu function
• Faster 3G connection setup time²
• Barnes & Noble EPUB file support
• Automatic indexing of title, author and thumbnail when a file is added to the device
• Ability to import Settings and Accounts information (MYIREX, Adobe) from MYIREX sign-up webpage on PC
• “View Book Information” menu function that shows file details for PDF and EPUB

Following the release of the DR1000S sourcecode we release today also the sourcecode and SDK of the iOn platform on which the iRex Digital Reader 800 series are based.

Regrettably, IREX  Technologies is not permitted by Mobipocket to maintain the Mobipocket DRM viewer on any IREX device that runs Adobe DRM (ePub).
Therefore there will be no Mobipocket DRM support on the Digital Reader 800S or SG. Also there will be no software release supporting Mobipocket DRM in the future.

The IREX iLiad has been specially designed for Mobipocket DRM and therefore will be the only IREX reader to continue to support Mobipocket DRM reading.

On the IREX DR1000 series, currently supporting Mobipocket, a choice will be given to you to use Mobipocket or Adobe DRM at the moment that the E-Pub/Adobe DRM upgrade is offered. As explained in the blog posting of August 26.
